Comparative And superlative


COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE
Study these sentences
1.       Ants are smaller than bees
2.       He ran faster than me
3.       The view in Danau Singkarak was more beautiful than the view in Pantai Gading
4.       Rangga is smarter than sandy
5.       My brother is taller than my mother
6.       Dimas is the clerevest student in the class
7.       I’m the oldest daughter in my family
8.       She is the most wonderful friend
9.       This box is the heaviest
10.   I was the slowest runner in the competition.
11.   An elephant is bigger than horse

    Sentences 1 to 5 are using comparative form adjectives and adverbs . The comparative compares one thing / person to another thing /person . A comparative is followed by than .
    Sentences 6 to 10 are using superlative form of adjectives and adverbs . The superlative compres one thing/person to all the rest in its group . A superlative begins with the .
    For one syllable adjectives or advverbs , we add –er (comparative) and –est (superlative).
    For most two syllables adjectives , we use more and most.
    Two syllables adjectives ending in –y have –ier  and –iest.
    For three –or-more – syllables adjectives or adverbs , we use more and most.
